Out with the Pink, In with the Grey

The house has been painted, and we did a bit of clean up today.  We can't tell people to look for the pepto bismol colored house anymore.  We're so happy with this color and can't wait for family and friends to visit.

Almost Finished

Stucco work and exterior paint are the last major tasks in the renovation process, and Mesha and his crew are doing a great job. We might be finished with the stucco work and the painting by next weekend, but the weather will have some say in that progress.

Nini Turns Three

It's hard to believe that Nini is now three, but that is what happened last Sunday.   We were lucky enough to have Uncle Greg and Aunt Lori in town to celebrate.  We had a lot of fun!!!

Halloween

We all enjoyed Halloween this year.  Kaz was a ninja nerf warrior, Max was Bobafet, Zach was a motocross rider, and Nini was a cheerleader.  It was quite fun.

Making Progress

Well we've successfully moved out of the town home and unpacked everything that we took with us to that location.  As of this evening, and thanks to help from Max and Zach, we've cleaned out our storage unit.  We have a little bit of stuff spread out in a number of other locations that we need to go through.  We've got some items that we hope to give to family or friends, but we plan on having a yard sale in the spring to get rid of a bunch of things.

The living room.  Terri's ice photograph is on the back wall.

The mud room.  We have quite a few baskets.

The house is starting to take shape.  We've hung a couple of Terri's photographs, and they look fabulous!  We continue to go through boxes each night, with the goal of getting through everything by the end of December--we have a lot of stuff.  Here are a few pictures of what the house looks like right now.  I'm sure it'll change tomorrow or the next day or the next week.

Final Touches

The walls have been painted (thank you, Anna). The trim is down (thank you, Kenny). The carpet is installed, and the floors have been sanded and sealed (thank you, Mike). Thanks to my Dad, Dale, Stephanie, and everyone else who helped us finish this project.  Tomorrow is Moving Day!

Flooring is Down

View from the hallway into the former red room and the new room on the southern end of the old porch.

New flooring stitched into the existing kitchen floor.

Another view of the former red room (now the guest room/piano room) and part of the new room on the old porch.
Mike finished installing the flooring yesterday, now I need to cover it with cardboard to protect it until he can sand and seal it in a few weeks.  Ken will install doors and finish trim on the second floor this week and put in the bathroom vanity and counter and medicine cabinet.  After that he'll move down to the first floor where he'll install most of the baseboard and the chair rail.  We need to paint the kitchen today and tomorrow, then start painting the yellow pine trim.  We'll get the plumber and electrician in the following week to finish up, then carpet gets installed the week after that.  We are so close.

Apple Pie

Max helped me bake this pie made from apples from Grandma and Grandpa's apple tree.  It tasted wonderful.

Beautiful Flooring

Zach and Max helping clean up after the floor has been installed.

The yellow pine trim waiting to be painted in the basement.
Mike has been busy the past two days putting in the maple flooring, and it is stunning!!  These pictures don't do it justice, and it will look even better when it's sanded and sealed.  He has about 100 square feet left to finish, then we cover it up with cardboard until he has time to complete the job.  We can start to see that light at the end of the tunnel.  P.S. I don't know why the pictures have spots on them.  This camera is starting to show its age, I think.

Renovation Update

Ready for flooring.

The computer room is the same color as the entryway/mudroom.

Well things are still moving along; however, we've decided to wait a month to move back in so we can be sure that everything that needs to be done will get done.  With Anna's help we finished a good portion of the painting this weekend and are ready for the flooring to be installed on the first floor.  Terri and I are picking out lights and faucets, and Ken is taking a break for a week to catch up on his backlogged jobs.  If not for Ken and Anna we'd be sunk right now.  I don't know how else to relay that information, but without them we'd be looking at three or more months of work instead of one.  Hakia plans to install the tile in the upstairs bathroom this week, and Aaron will be doing electrical work in the basement.  Other than those two activities and the flooring this week will be quiet.  Doors will be delivered on Friday, and carpet gets installed on September 21.  I'm attaching some photos of the first floor rooms after they've been painted.  The front two rooms of the house (the entryway/mudroom and the computer room--the rooms carved out of the former porch) have been painted blue.  The remaining three rooms of the first floor (with the exception of the kitchen) have been painted a rich blue green.  Let us know what you think.  Look for more photos at the end of week.  We hope to be able to show you the maple floor at the end of this week--after it's been installed but before it's been sanded and sealed.
